.NET 10 Demystified – Tech & Meet Session with Kevin De Rudder
Earlier today, I attended another Tech & Meet session — this time focused on .NET 10, presented by Kevin De Rudder, .NET expert, full-stack developer, and one of the organizers behind events like Techorama.
It turned out to be one of the most fast-paced but surprisingly digestible deep-dives into .NET I’ve seen.
What Made This Session Stand Out
Kevin opened by explaining how .NET 10 continues the evolution toward a unified platform — something Microsoft has been building toward for years.
One of the key takeaways:
“.NET is one big family — everything works together effortlessly.”
He contrasted this with the Java ecosystem, which isn’t truly one platform and can sometimes introduce fragmentation or incompatibility depending on the setup.
It was a simple explanation, but it immediately positioned .NET’s direction clearly.
A Hands-On Demo: Spotify API Integration
Rather than just slides, Kevin built a small application on the spot using the Spotify API.
Seeing the flow live — from structuring the app, calling APIs, handling responses — made the new .NET features easier to grasp.
Even better: Kevin didn’t shy away from showing the real side of coding.
He made a few small typing mistakes along the way, laughed about them, fixed them, and continued — a great reminder that even experts debug, adjust, and try again.
A Dense Session in a Short Time
Originally planned as a longer session, Kevin compressed everything into a smaller time window.
This meant:
- a lot of valuable information
- high tempo
- fewer pauses, but clear explanations throughout
Despite the rapid pace, the session stayed structured and easy to follow. Kevin always explained why he was doing something before showing how to do it — something not all live coders manage well.
A Fun Detail: Hot Pink
Kevin’s favourite color is hot pink
A fun personal detail that made the talk a bit more memorable.
Description of the Session (from the Event)
With the release of .NET 10, Microsoft continues to unify and strengthen its development platform, offering new performance gains, productivity features, and cloud-native enhancements.
Kevin De Rudder walked us through the most important updates, showing how .NET 10 fits into modern development, from microservices to AI integrations.
Final Thoughts
Overall, this Tech & Meet session was fast, engaging, and insightful.
I walked away with:
- a clearer understanding of what’s new in .NET 10,
- how the ecosystem is becoming more unified,
- and how modern .NET applications integrate smoothly with external APIs like Spotify.
A big thanks to Kevin De Rudder for the energy, clarity, and live coding.
I’m looking forward to diving deeper into .NET 10 in my own projects.
